Historically, the motorcycle community has been predominantly male and often associated with traditional notions of masculinity, SCVR vows to change this.
Consequently, LGBTQ+ individuals, including gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender riders, have faced challenges and discrimination within this subculture. Gay motorcycle rights movements like SCVR seek to address these issues and create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all riders, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
Some key areas of focus for gay motorcycle rights include:
Anti-discrimination: Advocating for laws and policies that prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity within motorcycle clubs, events, and organizations. This involves raising awareness about discriminatory practices and fostering an inclusive culture within the motorcycle community.
Visibility and representation: Promoting LGBTQ+ visibility within the motorcycle world through events, rallies, and Pride rides. This helps create a sense of community and encourages more LGBTQ+ individuals to participate in motorcycling.
Safety and awareness: Addressing safety concerns specific to LGBTQ+ riders, such as promoting awareness of hate crimes, providing resources for reporting incidents, and working with law enforcement to ensure the protection of LGBTQ+ motorcyclists.
Legal protections: Advocating for equal legal rights and protections for LGBTQ+ riders, including access to marriage, healthcare, employment, and housing without discrimination.
Education and outreach: Organizing workshops, seminars, and educational campaigns to promote understanding and acceptance of LGBTQ+ individuals within the motorcycle community. This includes educating motorcycle clubs and riders about LGBTQ+ issues and fostering dialogue and allyship. By advocating for gay motorcycle rights, the Saint Croix Valley Riders aim is to create an environment where LGBTQ+ individuals can fully enjoy their passion for motorcycles without fear of discrimination or exclusion, and to promote diversity, inclusivity, and equality within the motorcycle community as a whole.
